Civic Commons is excited to Welcome Nicole Czubin:Seattle native, Nicole (she/her), has dedicated her career to community-centered work, blending advocacy, storytelling, and strategic outreach to uplift and center the voices of those furthest from our collective table. A skilled facilitator and cultural historian, she draws on both lived and professional experience to drive data informed, people centered change. A: An actress, art teacher, AND an attorney.
Q: What’s one thing people might not know about you?
A: I was on my High School's award-winning Mock Trial team. The only public school to win state and compete nationally.
Q: If you could grab coffee with any Seattleite, past or present, who would it be?
A: My Nana. Mrs. Jeannette D. Jones, a longtime Seattle Public School's educator, grassroots organizer, and the reason my work is rooted in community. While she has passed on, her programming and 45+ years in education live on today.
Q: What’s something you’re involved in that other people should know about?
A: The CDPSA! The Central District Public Safety & Accountability team hosts cross-sector, community-based meetings in Seattle's Historically Black Central District. Born out of on-going safety concerns in our community, we come together to lift up barriers, identify solutions, hold each other (including elected officials) accountable, and celebrate our successes.
Q: What’s the first place you take out-of-town visitors?
A: Communion R&B or Fat's Chicken & Waffles. Both represent the Seattle I grew up in, know and love. Good food, great hospitality, and there is just something special about taking out-of-towners to the heart of the Central District.
